It has been said that if you want to be truly successful… you have to fail. And the more successful you want to become, the more failure you are going to need to endure. Sophia Amoruso built her multi-million dollar company, Nasty Girl after her eBay seller account was suspended. She could have quit, but she did not. Nasty Girl was bringing in around $100 Million a year before Sophia had to file for bankruptcy not long after its peak.
Many would have quit after this colossal failure, but instead, Sophia built the multi-media company, Girlboss, to help teach and encourage other budding entrepreneurs to fail gracefully until they find success. And while it would cost you over $1000 to receive instructional advice from this guru at a seminar, we’re going to let you in on ten of her best tips for free.
1.
Figure out what you love doing and don’t suck at, then try to figure out how to make a living doing that! Don’t be scared. We’re all going to die, it’s just a question of when and how.”
2.
If you’re frustrated because you’re not getting what you want, stop for a second: Have you actually flat-out asked for it? If you haven’t, stop complaining. You can’t expect the world to read your mind. You have to put it out there, and sometimes putting it out there is as simple as just saying, “Hey, can I have that?”
3.
One of the best things about life—a reason not to go blindly after one goal and one goal only—is that sometimes it will take you to something that is way cooler than anything you would have consciously set out to do in the first place.”
4.
If something’s not working out, but you keep hammering at it in the exact same way, go after something else for a while. That’s not giving up, that’s just letting the universe have its way.”
5.
In whatever you do, you’re not going to stand out unless you think big and have ideas that are truly original. That comes from tapping into your own creativity, not obsessing over what everyone else is doing.”
6.
You don’t get taken seriously by asking someone to take you seriously. You’ve got to show up and own it.”
7.
Compete with yourself, not with others.”
8.
Surround yourself with people who are engaged, honest, and confident enough on their own quest to support you on yours. There is no time for losers.”
9.
Focus on the positive things in your life and you’ll be shocked at how many more positive things start happening. But before you start to think you just got lucky, remember that it’s magic, and you made it yourself.”
10.
Treat your savings account like just another bill. It has to be paid every month, or there are consequences.”
