We’ve discussed rounding up a stallion, finding your Nemo, or just finding a really good man before… but this month we’ve come up with several more ideas you’ve likely never thought of. But I can tell you from experience (and the experience of others I know) – they work.
Dog Park
If you’ve been thinking about getting a dog, allow me to push you right over that fence into a dog park where you’ll find a pool of men who really know how to take care of something other than themselves and the little buddy between their legs. I have interviewed countless dating experts over the years, and a dog park is always within the top five places to meet a great guy – provided that you have that interest and means of ownership, of course.
Cooking Class
Ladies, have you ever had an eligible man invite you over for a gourmet meal – that he has cooked himself? Can you even imagine how wonderful it would be to be with a man that can not only cook, but likes it enough to seek out better ways to do it? If you answered ‘no’ to either of these questions – you really need to experience this man at least once before you find ‘the one’. Any cellulite you gain from that experience will be entirely worth it!
Segway Tours
The last time I did a Segway Tour in downtown Denver, I was paired with a cute guy to be my ‘fall buddy’ since I did not have one and neither did he. And for those of you who have never been on one of these tours, you can fall a lot on these contraptions (if you’re clumsy like me), and your fall buddy is there to watch you do so, and embarrass you even more when they have to get off their Segway to help you back up. Well, on this particular day it was this guy who fell off… and we ended up falling for each other a bit as I helped him back up… and it led to several more great dates. Was it worth it? Yes!
At Work (With Caution)
Okay girl, the research suggests that there is actually a pretty good chance that you will run into several dating opportunities over the course of your career. And according to a survey by Office Mate, these relationships have more than a 30 percent chance of leading to marriage. The problem is that most ‘secret’ relationships end up spilling out over the entire work floor leaving you the most vulnerable to losing respect from colleagues, being passed up for promotion, or losing your job. So with that much at stake, make sure that the object of your affection is not your boss or a married co-worker because either of these can really end in a huge disaster.
The Airport
If you love to travel and don’t mind taking the reins by your lonesome, you are actually engaging in one of the best ways to meet a man who enjoys a similar hobby, has the means to do so (not a deadbeat), and is likely single if he shows all the tell-tale signs (mismatching socks, lonely look on his face, etc.). I have known so many women who have met an interesting guy while traveling and never even thought to get his contact information just because they assumed he lived out of state. If you are really looking for a special man, don’t forget to look beyond the boundaries of your neighborhood and state, because happy love stories really can come out of a long-distance relationship ( I know of at least five).
Improvisation Troup
Last year I enrolled in my very first improvisation class, and I also enjoyed one of the most fruitful dating seasons of my life. Did I meet Prince Charming and live happily ever after? No, but I met a few cute guys who totally fit the mold of a Prince, and I had a lovely time discovering they weren’t quite Mr. Right. There is no loss in trying new things, and the classes themselves can help improve your confidence and ability to approach a good guy who may be too shy to approach you himself.
Farmers Markets
I meet interesting people all the time frequenting Farmer’s Markets, and over half of them are men. It is just a real casual place to make contact and there are so many ways to start up a conversation with either a comment (‘oh my, that is a really big zucchini.’), question (where did you find such a huge zucchini?), or an all-out flirt (‘I once heard a man’s zucchini was equivalent to the size of his…’ – blush). You get the point.
And while we’re on that topic, if you’re wondering where you might find the guys who are the most well-endowed, Minnesota is the place according to Thrillist.
